9 Hobbies That’ll Make Plugging In Worthwhile
As you grow and evolve to balance your online life, you’re left to wonder: what are some of the things I can do to make my online life feel more… alive? It’s up to you decide. After all, what I do when I plug in is vastly different from what you do (unless you just like staring at pictures all day long. By the way, I don’t do that but you might). If you’re reading this, then you’re likely trying to make your plugged in sessions better and awesome. Well then, here are 9 hobbies that make plugging worthwhile. Here we go!
Oh yes. Gaming makes plugging in worthwhile. Before you enter into a rant of telling me it’s a waste of time, you have to look at it from a different angle. Also, you’re exploring this blog which deals with balancing our online and offline lives. So why does gaming make plugging in worthwhile? Because it lets you explore worlds beyond our wildest imaginations, it lets you experience stories, fight monsters, co-op play with family and friends, do crazy things, and more. Also, there’s just something about being able to explore a vast world while shouting “FUS ROH DAH” at a wimpy undead skeleton in Skyrim. Watch:
Yep, that’s the stuff.
2. TV Show Watching
Binge-watch or no binge-watch, watching TV shows makes plugging in worthwhile because it’s fun to catch up with your favorite characters go through stories that are well-suited to their arcs. Whether it’s finding out what the heck the geeks of The Big Bang Theory are doing to seeing the dragons chill and grow in Game of Thrones, there’s a greatness to TV shows. Also, they let you relax and unwind in ways.
Just like no.2, movies have the same effect too. With Netflix, Hulu, and other apps going around, you can plug in and watch a movie to give yourself a nice experience.
Oh yes, reading can be a hobby that’ll make plugging in worthwhile. At first glance, it can be a barrage to see so much info being dispersed everywhere: articles here and there. But when you take the time to find good sites to read from such as Mental Floss, you’ll find a lot of good stuff to indulge in to feed your craving for more learning. Cool right? To get you started, here’s a list of sites that’ll keep you sharp and entertained.
5. Skill Learning
Back in the old days, learning a skill meant you either needed to learn by the book, get taught by a master, or do it by the hard way. Nowadays, you can still do it the old-school way or do it the new-school way… through videos! Skill learning makes plugging in worthwhile because there are loads of sites such as Youtube that can show videos for a skill you’ve been meaning to learn. Whether you want to know how to do origami or fix up a computer or brush up your Photoshop skills, you’ll have tons of resources.
Yep, that’s right. Writing can be a good hobby to try to make your plugged in sessions worthwhile. Whether you’re a blogger (like me) or an up-and-coming writer who’s got something to say, writing in the online world is a good hobby because it’ll help you improve a lot of things. You can also make good use of the tools that are made for writers.
Podcasts are sprouting everywhere! From Spotify to iTunes, you can dig deep and find a plethora of topics to listen to. Want to know what goes beyond the life of actors in their personal time? Need to learn more about how money flows in today’s world? Want someone to tell you everything will be all right? Podcasts are definitely a great way to make plugging in worthwhile.
8. Online Community
So you’re already getting into a good hobby, but then you wonder: are there are tips and tricks I may not aware of? Back then, you’d have to be part of groups that share the same interest in your hobby. Now, you can join an online community! This makes plugging in worthwhile because you’ll get to learn from others who share the same hobby as you. Also, you can share what you know, get in touch with others worldwide, and more. Heck, you may even get a chance to organize an offline hangout too.
Finally, we’re at the apps. Apps make plugging worthwhile because you can do quite a lot with them. From the fun games to the knowledge storage, they can help you chill, relax, and energize. Deep within, you can also find apps that are a combination of the 8 previous hobbies we just discussed. So if you need to learn a skill, watch a show, and do other stuff, there are apps ready for the type of hobby you’re already delving into
With these 9 hobbies, plugging in will be a worthwhile experience as you balance your online life. If there are other hobbies you feel are worth plugging in for, let us know in the comments below!
